Questions are developed following a process modeled after the software release life cycle. The question development cycle includes four phases: pre-alpha, alpha, beta, and release. This process encourages and facilitates collaborative development and a bit of revision control. As questions are first drafted, they are categorized as pre-alpha - that is they are completely untested. After initial edits and testing by at least one family, the question is advanced to alpha status. After enough families have sufficiently tested a question, it will advance to beta status. Finally, when the question is thoroughly vetted, it will be considered released. Additionally, some questions are categorized into "challenges." Challenges are intended to encourage manageable commitments to learn specific sets of questions.
